KIds Cooking Camp-Basking Ridge, Ages 9-13
Bring your child's favorite cooking show to life with this cooking camp for kids 9 to 13. Shelley Wiseman, Cookbook Author and former Gourmet Magazine Food Editor is coming from Lambertville, NJ to teach. The students will learn to feel confident in the kitchen with proper measuring techniques, knife skills, and many cooking methods using the stove top and the oven, including crepe making, pasta making and practice with pastry dough.
Monday - Knife skills - chefs knife and paring knife
Gazpacho and croutons
Herb omelet
Strawberry shortcake with whipped cream
Techniques covered: holding a knife, dicing, identifying herbs, chopping herbs, frying (croutons), omelet making, Biscuits, whipped cream, measuring flour
Tuesday - Crepes - measuring wet and dry ingredients, reading a recipe
Lemon and sugar crepes
Zucchini, Onion, and Goat Cheese and Dill Crepes
Crepe Cake with orange zest, whipped cream and shaved chocolate
Techniques covered: measuring, crepe batter, dicing, chopping, zesting, whipped cream, shaving, using a blender, crepe making
Wednesday - Pastry Dough - pie and quiche

Friday - Pasta - homemade pasta dough and sauces

Techniques covered: 2 kinds of pasta dough (egg and semolina), hand forming pasta, using a pasta machine, picking basil, using a food processor, chopping garlic, tossing
Note: Participants should wear closed toed shoes. Participants should bring containers to take food home.
